What is the NZeTA?

The New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) is an electronic travel authorisation required for travellers from visa waiver countries visiting New Zealand for short stays. It is intended for tourism, visiting family or friends, short business trips, or transit.

Issued by New Zealand authorities, the NZeTA is electronically linked to your passport, so no physical visa label or stamp is required.

An approved NZeTA generally allows multiple entries over two years, or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. Most travellers may stay for up to three months per visit, while UK passport holders may stay for up to six months per visit. Each visit must comply with the permitted stay duration.

It does not permit employment or long-term residence in New Zealand.

International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL)

The International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) is a charge applied to most visa waiver travellers and visitor visa applicants entering New Zealand. It helps maintain infrastructure and protect the natural environment.

The IVL is automatically assessed and applied during the NZeTA application process where required. Some travellers may be exempt depending on their nationality or travel category.
